Google translate problem or is it!?

Yesterday one of my colleagues used google translate to reply on email. Google translate is great tool, but you have to type in correct sentence and only then you can get “some” nice result.

If you don’t do that you can stuck with something like this (unfortunately only people from Ex Yugoslavia can understand this one but still it’s a big LOL :

Hello,
attached we send you a contract on business saradnji.Molimo g apotpišete you to verify and return back to us by mail at this address

Fortunately, the client did understand what he want to say.

But what about google translate?  I try to translate this sentence from English to Croatian: “Fortunately, the client did understand what he want to say” (Srećom, klijent je razumio šta je on želio reći) and  what GTranslate gave me is: “Srećom, klijent nije razumio što on želi reći” (it translate to something opposite to what I want to say).

So I try one more time to use result of translation as input to translate  from Croatian to English: “Srećom, klijent nije razumio što on želi reći” and now, I get right translation: “Fortunately, the client did not understand what he wants to say”.

The question is: How can you trust to the service like this and do you ever get some strange results?
